Storage is always a problem in a small area and it is one of the areas that have to be really thought out. What do you need to store? How will I use my space?
Bookcases and shelves when thoughtfully styled out can create areas that are visually appealing as well as being functional. By adding baskets to lower shelves you can store items that you may not seen.
Use every space in a room wisely. Forgotten areas under the stairs make fantastic storage areas or workspaces. Plan your decorating out, by looking at the whole floor and what you will need to function. Check out our guide to decorating which will help you when planning out a room.
Avoid decorating in dark hues, which will only make a room feel smaller. Use a light palette for walls and furniture and bring colour in through accents and textiles.
Mirrors are fantastic in small spaces and one of the used tricks in the decorating world. There are two reasons for this; first they will reflect light back into a space, helping it feel bright and airy. Second they create added dimension making a room feel much larger then it actually is.
In a room that will have multiple functions, creating a divider is a great way to make each area feel separate. A divider could be a drape/curtain from the ceiling separating the bedroom from a living space or by taking a sofa away from the wall and placing it between a kitchen and living space you create two distinct separate areas.
