Founder, Mum and Managing Director of Little Lucy Willow

Running a business and being a mum is all in a days work from managing director Louise Thomas. Louise founded the fabulous Little Lucy Willow furniture store that offers British made, exclusive, high quality children’s bedroom furniture. The pieces are made to order using their own master craftsmen. We caught up with the busy Mum to discuss Little Lucy Willow and her advice for what to look for when buying Children's Future.

WHY WAS LITTLE LUCY WILLOW CREATED?

I set up the company around 3 years ago as it was a natural addition to our adult furniture business Lucy Willow (www.lucywillow.co.uk). Having two young children I knew only too well the distinct lack of good quality kids furniture on the market and I had some wonderful ideas for designs.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE STYLE ETHOS OF LITTLE LUCY WILLOW?

We believe we create beautiful, timeless furniture that is built to last. From clean lines to feminine curves, a Little Lucy Willow piece of furniture will never date and is completely exclusive.

WAS IT IMPORTANT TO USE BRITISH CRAFTSMEN?

Yes having experienced many problems over the years in importing furniture I was conscious that I wanted our furniture to be high quality. Particularly so with children’s furniture where it is fair to say that things aren’t always treated with the care and consideration you might like them to be! Consequently, we now produce the furniture to order in our own factory here in the UK. We work closely with them to ensure that the furniture that we produce is of the highest quality and I am are particularly proud of the highly durable painted finishes that they apply.

WHAT IS THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU CAN GIVE WHEN IT COMES TO CHOOSING FURNITURE FOR CHILDREN?

Simple: to buy quality. Of course with quality comes a price tag but we believe that our furniture is value for money. We create furniture that is designed to stand the test of time and therefore it can be handed down through generations ultimately saving our customers money. The adage that if ‘you buy cheap you buy twice’ is never truer in the world of children’s furniture so I would say ‘buy right and pay once’.

DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE RANGE OR PIECE?

Our best seller is our Florence and Daisy Collections but I still love the timeless design of our Jack and Molly Bed. Sleek, contemporary yet an undeniably beautiful bed that is perfect for either a boy or a girl of any age. I always like to show how different a room can look with the same furniture but dressed in different ways. We recently photographed our Archie collection painted in our cool grey colour. Dressed with our beautiful girls’ bedding and adding some pretty accessories the result was so different to when we dressed the room in a cool boys’ theme.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?

I suppose I’m a Laura Ashley meets The White Company girl who likes nice things. I have never been a huge fan of colour, even our cat is white! I am much more at home with fresh whites, calming creams, cooling greys and feminine pastels. I love things that are classic and timeless and I feel that my furniture designs echo my sense of style.

HAVE YOU ANY EXCITING PLANS FOR THE FUTURE?

We have many customers from countries outside of the UK who want to add the Little Lucy Willow touch to their child’s bedroom. We have exported furniture to lucky children all around the world. We have recently agreed for our furniture to be sold in Moscow, Russia through a high end childrens emporium. Little Lucy Willow is going global! We are also currently busy designing our first nursery collection, we feel that we have something exciting and different to offer so watch this space....
