Scandinavian Style

5th February 2014

A Scandinavian style home in Belfast designed and built by Norwegian born interior designer Elizabeth Patterson.

From the outside Elizabeth and Brian’s home looks like a small crafted cottage but exterior looks can be deceiving! Upon entering their home, the interior boasts a fabulous space and design.

Elizabeth's scandinavian roots are clearly everywhere you look in their home, right down to the buildings construction, which was made by the Norwegian firm Fjord and shipped over to Belfast. What is beautiful about the style of design they have created is that it tells the story of both their lives. Old inherited furniture from different eras, countries even, sit side by side in perfect harmony. This is not surprising as Elizabeth was an interior designer for 20 years and knows how to marry furniture and design beautifully.

Everywhere you look the walls are cleverly covered in paintings and photographs each one with a story behind it. Elizabeth is a firm believer in recycling furniture, the light fitting in her kitchen came from her family home in Norway when no one else wanted it. Even the chandelier in her living room is made up from two separate old light fittings.

Elizabeth explained how her native country inspires her interiors and wood panelling plays a key role in that look. Their entrance foyer is covered in such panelling, creating the sensation that you are entering into a home that has been here for years instead of just three. Beautifully crafted and stunningly decorated Elizabeth and Brian have been successful in marrying together a house that reflects who they are.
